SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - Ryan Beasley finished with 30 points and set two new single-game program records on Wednesday night, but the University of San Francisco (USF) men's basketball team (14-11, 6-6 WCC) could not quite find the rhythm they needed to complete a comeback victory as LMU (12-13, 3-9 WCC) held on to defeat the Dons, 84-75, at War Memorial at the Sobrato Center.
Beasley finished with a game-high 30 points, including making 21 of his 24 free throw attempts, both of which set new single-game program records. Junjie Wang helped out with 19 points and four rebounds. Together, Beasley (21-24) and Wang (11-12) were a combined 32-of-36 (88.9 percent) from the free throw line on Wednesday night.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- After falling behind 37-25, San Francisco went on a 7-0 run with 1:21 left in the first half, culminating in a three-pointer from Tyrone Riley IV, to narrow its deficit to 37-32, a score that would hold until halftime.
- LMU kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 55-46 advantage before USFÂ went on a 6-0 run to shrink the deficit to 55-52 with 9:25 to go in the contest.
- Legend Smiley hit a three-pointer with 2:37 remaining in regulation to cut the green and gold's deficit to six, 74-68, but the Lions outscored the Dons the rest of the way to hang out and secure the road victory, 84-75.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
- Beasley (30 points), Wang (19 points), and Legend Smiley (8 points)Â combined for 57 of San Francisco's 75 points.
- Beasley's performance marked his second 30-point game of this season, both of which came against LMU. His 21 made free throws surpassed former teammate Malik Thomas, who made 17 free throws twice in his career on the Hilltop.
- The Dons led the Lions in second chance points (10-8) and fast break points (12-10).
