SEATTLE, Wash. – The University of San Francisco women's basketball team (14-9, 7-5), led by Candy Edokpaigbe's game-high 24 points, earned a 76-67 victory at Seattle U (5-18, 1-11) Thursday evening at Redhawk Center.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- Despite gaining an early 13-9 lead in the first quarter, San Francisco fell behind at the 2:58 mark, 15-13, following six straight Seattle U points. The Dons, however, finished the opening period on a 5-2 scoring run, capped off with a Meghan McIntyre three-pointer with 1:12 remaining to give the green and gold a narrow 18-17 advantage.
- San Francisco continued to grow its lead in the second quarter, pushing the margin to six, 25-19, on a McIntyre fast-break layup at 8:01. After Seattle U tied the game at 25, the green and gold scored 20 unanswered points to conclude the first half and led 45-25 at the end of the second quarter.
- Seattle U responded at the start of the second half, using an 8-0 scoring run to trim their deficit to 12, 45-33, at the 7:54 mark. The Redhawks continued to fight in the third quarter and cut the Dons' lead to single digits, 63-54, following a 5-0 run in the final 41 seconds of the period.
- San Francisco kept its lead intact in the fourth quarter before going on a 5-0 run, finished off by a Mara Neira three-pointer, to grow the lead to 68-56 with 8:13 to go in the contest. The Redhawks narrowed the margin near the end of the contest, but the Dons still cruised the rest of the way for the 76-67 win.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
- Edokpaigbe registered a game-high 24 points, two points shy of her career-high, while adding five rebounds, one assist, and three steals. Surpassed 20+ points in a game for the fourth time in WCC play and eighth time overall.
- Noelia Mouriño nearly posted her second-career double-double as she finished with 13 points and nine rebounds in 27 minutes of work.
- Reaching double figures for the second time in the last three games, Neira posted 12 while shooting 40 percent (four-for-10) from the three-point line.
- McIntyre led the second unit as she recorded 12 points on an impressive 71.4 percent (five-for-seven) from the field in 17 minutes off the bench.
- As a team, San Francisco outpaced Seattle U in points in the paint (38-26), second-chance points (16-10), fast break points (18-9), and bench points (20-3).
