SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - Head coach Chris Gerlufsen and the University of San Francisco (USF) men's basketball program announced today the signing of guard Yoav Vitlem (Modi'in, Israel).
"USF is delighted to welcome Yoav Vitlem to our basketball program," said Gerlufsen.
"Yoav is a skilled point guard with a strong feel for the game. He brings valuable experience from competing at a high level with Hapoel Beer Sheva. Yoav's ability to organize an offense, create opportunities for himself and others, and make winning plays will be an outstanding addition to our team. We look forward to welcoming Yoav to the Hilltop and seeing the impact he will make both on and off the court!"
Vitlem comes to the Hilltop after spending time with Hapoel Altshuler Shaham Be'er Sheva/Dumona, who compete in the Israel Basketball Super League, the top men's basketball league in Israel.
Last season, he averaged 12.2 points, 3.2 assists, 2.7 rebounds, and 1.9 steals in 31.8 minutes per game for the club. Notably, his 1.9 steals per game tied for fourth in the league. Vitlem shot 44.8 percent from the field, 33.7 percent from beyond the arc, and 82.9 percent from the free throw line across 25 games.
In 2024-25, he played a reserve role for the club, averaging 6.5 minutes and 1.3 points per game over 24 appearances. One year prior, he appeared in seven games, averaging 2.9 minutes and 1.1 points per game for the club.
Vitlem also competed for Israel in the FIBA U20 Eurobasket 2025, where he averaged 8.1 points, 3.7 assists, 1.4 rebounds, and 1.3 steals in 21.0 minutes per game. He shot 51.2 percent from the field, 36.4 percent from beyond the arc, and 75.0 percent from the free throw line in the tournament.
