Biography

2012 SEASON: Led the Dons with seven home runs and a .467 slugging percentage... seven homers ranked fourth in the entire West Coast Conference... four of seven home runs came in pinch-hit fashion... smashed six doubles and pounded 22 RBI, good for third on the team... 13 of his 30 hits went for extra bases... primarily served as the designated hitter, but also played catcher and left field... recorded five multi-hit games... went 2-for-5 with one run scored and a two-run home run against Sacramento State (5/1)... went 1-for-4 with two runs scored and a solo home run over the left field netting and on to Golden Gate ave. on Senior Day against Santa Clara (5/13)... hit pinch-hit home run against Saint Mary's on first pitch he saw in the seventh inning (5/26).

2011 SEASON: Started 17 games this season as the team’s designated hitter and appeared in 12 other games as a pinch hitter…notched his first multiple-hit game of the season against Pacific (3/25) where he went 2-for-5 with two RBI and a walk…turned in another 2-for-5 day at Pacific (3/26) with a double…hit his first home run of the season against San Francisco State (4/26)…blasted a two-run home run against Loyola Marymount (5/1).

2010 SUMMER: Chavez registered the best batting average of all Dons this summer, playing for the New Bedford Bay Sox in the New England Collegiate Baseball League, with a .355 average and 50 hits… named the NECBL Batting Champion for his performance at the plate and first-team all NECBL as a first baseman and second team as an outfielder… also finished with a 1.41 ERA on the mound and a 0.995 fielding percentage.

2010 SEASON: Made 15 appearances, totaling 16.2 innings with a 1-0 record and 3.78 ERA… also played in the field for 43 games, hitting .224 with 12 RBI and 12 walks… went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a double against Cal State Bakersfield (3/9)… pitched a hitless inning at San Diego and went 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI (3/11)… notched two hits at UC Riverside (3/19)… drew three walks against BYU and hit an RBI double (3/31)… held Sacramento State scoreless for two innings (4/7)… hit two homeruns to total four RBI and struck out two in one hitless inning at UC Davis (4/13)… drew two walks at New Mexico (4/20)… threw a hitless inning at Loyola Marymount (4/24)… notched two hits, including a triple, and threw a scoreless inning against San Diego (5/1)… went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI at Santa Clara (5/7)… longest outing of the season on the mound was 3.1 innings at Santa Clara (5/8). 

 

2009 SEASON: Was Dons only two-way player as a freshman... started one game on the mound and pitched in 14 others... finished the season 0-1, 6.35 ERA... tossed 17.0 innings and struck out 11... made collegiate pitching debut at Riverside and did not allow a run (2/28)... earned a no-decision in first collegiate start at No. 13 Cal Poly (5/3)... started eight games and played in 26 total... batted .286 (16-for-56) with six doubles, a triple, 14 RBI, and one stolen base... made collegiate debut and had first hit at Riverside (2/26)... tripled and drove in a run at Riverside (3/1)... had two hits at New Mexico State (3/21)... doubled twice and drove in three versus UC Davis (3/24)... doubled and drove in two at Bakersfield (4/1)... had career high three-hit day at Portland with a doubled (5/16).

2008 SEASON: Redshirt

PREP CAREER: Played four years of baseball at Burlingame High School... as a senior earned Player of the Year, MVP, and First-Team All County accolades.

PERSONAL: Born in March of 1989 in Redwood City, CA... son of Charles and Celeste Chavez... cousin of fellow Don Danny Chavez... chose USF for the coaching staff... likes the challenge of being a student athlete... would like to be Superman for a day... hobbies include driving and exercise... the best advice he's ever been given is that words are only words unless they are acted upon... the best advice he could give to youngsters is to go for your dreams... favorite sports hero is Alex Rodriguez... favorite movie is Forrest Gump... favorite musical artist is Coldplay... favorite food is Mexican... father Charles played baseball at San Jose State... hobbies include driving and exercise... majoring in Exercise and Sports Science.
