- First NBA draft pick since 1982 - Jonathan Mogbo / Toronto Raptors, Round 2 Pick 31 in 2024 NBA Draft...Mogbo became the 39th student-athlete from the university to be drafted into the NBA and the first under Gerlufsen. Additionally, Mogbo was the first West Coast Conference player taken off the board in the 2024 NBA Draft...Was just the second time since 2001 that a WCC school other than Gonzaga was the first to have a player selected (2023 - Brandin Podziemski/Santa Clara)...Prior to the draft, Mogbo was one of 78 players invited to the 2024 NBA Draft Combine in Chicago, Ill. from May 12-19

- Led San Francisco to 20+ wins in all three seasons as head coach...Extended streak of 20+ wins in last eight full seasons dating back to 2016-17 (excludes COVID-19 shortened season in 2020-21)...San Francisco has also finished in the top three of the WCC standings in back-to-back years (2023-24 and 2024-25)Â for the first time since 2001-02 and 2002-03
- Guided San Francisco to back-to-back appearances in the National Invitation Tournament (NIT) - 2023-24 and 2024-25
- Has reached the semifinal round of the West Coast Conference (WCC) Tournament in all three seasons as head coach
- Guided San Francisco to an undefeated regular season record at War Memorial at the Sobrato Center in 2024-25 (12-0), the first time the program accomplished this feat since 1980-81
- San Francisco finished tied for third in Division IÂ with Michigan State in three-point percentage defense at 28.2 in 2024-25...The Dons trailed just Tennessee and Liberty in this category by 0.5 percent
- San Francisco had a school-record five separate student-athletes selected for All-WCC honors in 2023-24, which included: Jonathan Mogbo (Newcomer of the Year, All-WCC First Team), Ryan Beasley (Freshman of the Year, WCC All-Freshman Team), Marcus Williams (All-WCC First Team), Ndewedo Newbury (WCC Honorable Mention) and Malik Thomas (WCC Honorable Mention)
- Gerlufsen’s inaugural season in 2022-23 began with a 7-1 start, a stretch highlighted by San Francisco winning the 2022 Hall of Fame Classic championship in Kansas City, MO. Khalil Shabazz would be named Tournament MVP while Tyrell Roberts was named to the All-Tournament Team...The Dons would finish nonconference play with a record of 11-4, which tied the highest preseason win total by a first-year head coach at San Francisco since 1980-81. The team’s 2022-23 campaign also featured a 37-point win over #25 Arizona State - the largest victory over a ranked team in program history
- Gerlufsen’s analytically-driven offensive system produced the 17th-most made threes per game in college basketball in 2021-22. When he was elevated to head coach in 2022-23, that number jumped to seventh in the country (out of 363 teams)
- In 2021-22, Gerlufsen was an integral part of San Francisco's first NCAA Tournament team since 1997-98, serving as associate head coach under Todd Golden. The team’s at-large NCAA Tournament berth was the program’s first since the bracket was expanded to its modern format of 64+ teams. In Gerlufsen’s first year on staff, San Francisco finished among college basketball’s elite in many metric-based rankings, including a 23rd place finish in KenPom and 26th in the NCAA's NET rankings. Following a successful 2021-22 campaign, San Francisco guard Jamaree Bouyea became the first Don to play in the NBA since Bill Cartwright in 1995
OTHER CAREER HIGHLIGHTS:
- Prior to Gerlufsen’s arrival on the Hilltop, he spent two seasons as the top assistant to head coach Eran Ganot at Hawaii. During the 2019-20 season, he served as the acting head coach for Hawaii’s first 13 games and compiled an 8-5 record (.615). His winning percentage at Hawaii currently ranks 2nd all-time in their school’s Division I history. Among Gerlufsen’s signature wins was an 85-75 upset victory over previously undefeated San Francisco. While at Hawaii, Gerlufsen coached All-Big West First Team guard Eddie Stansberry
- Before Hawaii, Gerlufsen spent four seasons as an assistant coach in the WCC with the University of San Diego. During his time at USD, the Toreros posted back-to-back 20+ win seasons for the first time ever. Gerlufsen’s final season at San Diego saw the Toreros earn a bid to the 2019 NIT - the only NIT invitation in USD history. While coaching with the Toreros, Gerlufsen helped forward Isaiah Pineiro develop into a two-time All-WCC First Team performer
- Gerlufsen was particularly instrumental in San Diego’s turnaround from an international recruiting standpoint, signing more than a half dozen foreign players during his tenure. One notable recruit, Yauhen Massalski, would play for Gerlufsen at both San Diego and San Francisco, where he blossomed into an All-WCC First Team selection on the Dons’ 2021-22 NCAA Tournament team
- From 2006-15, Gerlufsen spent nine seasons on the bench at the University of Hartford. After seven years as an assistant coach, he was promoted to associate head coach for the 2013-14 and 2014-15 seasons. Gerlufsen served as the program’s recruiting coordinator during that time. While at Hartford, Gerlufsen designed the team’s perimeter-oriented motion offense. His system triggered six consecutive seasons with 225+ made 3’s. In 2007-08, Hartford set an America East Conference record by connecting on 312 made 3’s - a number which ranked 10th nationally
- From 2001-06, Gerlufsen spent his five seasons coaching at The Citadel under Pat Dennis. On January 2, 2004, Gerlufsen served as interim head coach for one game. He began his head coaching career 1-0 with a 82-58 win over Army
- Before working in the Division I ranks, Gerlufsen got his start with coaching jobs at Southwestern from 1999-2001 and Washington College (Maryland) in 1998-99
PERSONAL HIGHLIGHTS:
- As a player, Gerlufsen was a four-time letter winner for Randolph-Macon College, a Division III school in Virginia. While playing for the Yellow Jackets, he was named team captain for a squad that advanced to the NCAA Division III tournament twice. He graduated in 1998 with a B.A. in business and economics
