During the Dons’ phenomenal run in the mid-1990s, Andrea Kagie was one of the key players for an electric USF squad, playing in 115 games and starting 41 times in her career. Kagie played on three WCC Championship teams and helped USF to regular season and conference titles in 1995 and 1996 and the conference tournament title in 1997. She played on USF’s 1996 Sweet 16 team and made four three-pointers in a first round upset win over Florida. As a sophomore when she averaged 12.0 points and 5.7 rebounds.

In her senior season, she tied a USF single-game record by making seven three-point field goals against San Diego on Feb. 8, 1997, and won All-WCC First Team honors that season. Off the court Kagie was a three-time WCC All-Academic Team honoree, and earned a NCAA postgraduate scholarship. Kagie finished her USF career third blocked shots (115) and second in steals (212), and with a three-point field goal percentage (.381). During her entire USF career, she scored 1,158 points and pulled down 519 total rebounds. The forward joins fellow teammates Renee Demirdjian, Valerie Gillon, Brittany Lindhe, and Jamie Shadian in the Dons Hall of Fame.

Why Kagie Chose USF: “The three key areas I used to consider my school choice included the basketball opportunity, the academics available, and the environment. I was looking for a place where I could make an impact as a solid player, and I needed a strong science and math foundation for school. Finally, I wanted to live somewhere that was interesting where I felt I could explore and enjoy. USF ticked all those boxes for me, and it turned out the be the absolutely best choice I could have made.”

Favorite USF Memories: “I played three sports in high school, but was really drawn towards basketball and was fortunate to be chosen by and to select USF. While my freshman year was rocky for myself as well as our team, we completely turned ourselves around the very next season and carried that success throughout the rest of my career at USF. We had a really great group of teammates with such a mixture of determination, confidence, silliness, intelligence, and chemistry that my time at USF playing with my teammates and being so successful was an amazing experience I will never forget. We had some really great memories of bonding and getting in trouble and winning and being silly. It's hard to pick out any single memory to highlight.”

The USF Student-Athlete Experience: “The teammates, life-long friendships, and the winning. Also building life-long skills that include perseverance, working through difficult challenges, and finding ways to be successful.”

Life After USF: After graduating from USF in Chemistry in 1997, Kagie played basketball overseas for eight years as a semi-professional athlete, competing in Denmark, Israel, Guatemala, Norway, and England over that time. When her basketball career ended, Kagie went back to school to earn a Master's Degree in Chemical Engineering. She is a Registered Professional Engineer, and a Senior Engineer and Project Manager for Wood in Phoenix, Arizona.  She was a native of Gilbert, AZ.
