Paul “Schrammy” Schramka was born on March 22, 1928 in Milwaukee, WI, and attended his local Messmer High School. Paul Schramka grew up playing baseball in sandlots and with youth groups before catching the eye of a scout from the Chicago Cubs. At 6’, 185 lbs., he threw and batted left-handed. In 1949, he signed a minor league contract with an option to earn a scholarship from the University of Notre Dame. But Schramka quickly transferred to the University of San Francisco on a scholarship for the baseball team. In his first season, Schramka batted .410, with 4 recorded home runs in 19 games.

After USF, Schramka served in the 4th Infantry division during the Korean War from October, 1950 to October, 1952. After leaving the service, Schramka went back to the Cubs at the major league level in 1953 before entering the minor league ball system for the Cubs.

Schramka returned to Milwaukee where he played ball for a team sponsored by Nerad Furs, and for the Langsdorf League with the Falk Corporation. He was also selected to compete in the Hearst Diamond Pennant Series All-Star Game. He continued to support baseball as the President of the Old Time Ballplayers' Association, the World Series Club, and by coaching. He is a member of the Messmer High School Hall of Fame, the USF Hall of Fame, and the Wisconsin Baseball Hall of Fame. He worked as a funeral director in Milwaukee, and was known for his compassion and his community service.
