Samuel Wicklow was born in Johnston, Scotland in 1912, and emigrated to the U.S. in 1923 at the age of 11. He attended Mission High School and then USF, and played for the Dons soccer team from 1931 to 1935. He was a member of Pi Delta Pi and the Gavel Club. As a Don, Wicklow made All-American and was a member of the USF All-Conference Champion Team. Wicklow also player soccer with the Rovers Club and the Olympic Club. He was inducted into the USF Hall of Fame in 1959, and into the California Soccer Association North Hall of Fame. 

Wicklow graduated from USF Law School Summa Cum Laude in 1935. He was the highest-ranking senior in the Phi Alpha Beta Law Fraternity, and taught there from 1941-1942 before serving as a Lieutenant in the United States Navy from 1942 to 1946. After returning from the war, Wicklow began teaching law again from 1946 to 1954 and then he went into private practice. In 1956 he was appointed to the San Francisco Public Defender's Office. Wicklow retired 11 years later in 1977. 
 
He was an avid golfer and tennis player, and established the Rohnert Park Tennis Club. He was past Chief of the San Francisco Caledonian Club, Elks Lodge, California Bodies of the Scottish Rite, the Order of St. Andrew's, Educators Lodge, Shriners, Greeters and SIRS. He served on the Board of Directors for the San Francisco Bible College, and was a moderator for the SF Council of Churches. He was a member of San Francisco's First Baptist Church for 38 years, Rohnert Park's Cross and Crown for 15 years, and then Hayward's Bay Hills Community Church.
