Torgeir Røstøen “Tom” Hauge was born on July 15, 1945 in Bergen, Norway, and attended his local Fana Gymnas High School. He was one of the first Norwegian students to attend USF. An active club soccer player in Norway, he was selected to Norway’s National Youth Team seven times. He was a member of the Brann team that won the 1963 Norwegian Football League Championship. Hauge arrived at USF in 1967, when, according to NCAA rules, freshmen were not allowed to play varsity soccer. In his sophomore year, he was a First-Year starter on the Varsity Team.

In his first game, he scored the winning goal in a 3-0 blitz over City College of San Francisco, at that time one of the top teams in the country. Within seven minutes, he left-footed a line drive past CCSF’s stunned goalie. That 1968 season, the team then went on to shutout UOP and San Francisco State. He also scored the only goal - a free kick - in a loss to the San Jose State Spartans. The most lopsided game was the USF 16-0 win against the University of Washington for the WCISC Championship. Hauge scored five goals. The team lost to Air Force 2-3 in the NCAA Western Regional Semi-Finals. By the end of the season, Hauge had played in 14 games and was the leading scorer with 19 goals. Hauge was named First Team All-American.

After USF, Hauge returned to Norway. From 1969 to 1975, he was captain and played over 200 games for the Brann Bergen Club. The team won the Norwegian Cup Championship in 1972 and played in the 1974 European Cup Finals. From 1993 to 1999, he was Chairman of the Board of the Brann Club. He then became a Sales Director in the Coatings Division of the Jotun Group, one of the world’s major manufacturers of paints, coatings and powder coatings.
