Wallace Bruce Cameron was born in San Francisco, and played basketball 1927 to 1930 as a guard for the then Grey Fog. The school newspaper, The Ignatian, described him as “one of the finest guards on the Coast, and the guiding spirit” of the team, during one of the most difficult seasons they had, due to their grueling schedule. As captain, “Cameron guided the team through a good season, and gained for himself the position as one of the most respected and popular players in the city. His long reach and his deceptive speed enabled him to outwit the forwards with whom he came in contact.”
He played often as both a starter and as a reserve player for the then Saint Ignatius College team that went on to win the 1929 Pacific Coast Championship (23-2). They also attended the National AAU Tournament, held in Kansas City, which was the only major national tournament at that time. They were eliminated in a game against Phillips University of Enid, OK, 26-1.
Cameron also served as Student Body President from 1930-1931. After USF, he served in the United States Army from 1943 to 1945.
