(Sacramento, Calif.) - The University of San Francisco women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to host Sacramento State Friday at Hornet Field in Sacramento. The Dons struggled offensively in the first half, but the Hornets didn't capitalize to secure the win until late in the match.

With the loss, USF drops to 1-5-0 on the season, while Sacramento State improved to 2-5-0.

"Today was a huge disappointment," said head coach Mark Carr. "Our players did not compete and play as hard as we needed to play in order to put us in a position to even win this game. We didn't execute and show up to play. I was very surprised since we have been doing really well, and have been training at a hard standard. We need to decide to be consistent from start to finish. As a team, we will meet about it, talk about it, address it and hopefully will be better for Sunday. We must work harder – no excuses."

San Francisco struggled from the start, taking just three shots in the first half. Sacramento State took advantage of the Dons' sluggish start, firing 10 shouts and taking three corner kicks.

In the first half, the Dons recorded four saves, while the Hornets garnered just one.

USF's offense picked it up a notch in the second half, taking six shots to Sacramento State's five. It wasn't enough, though, as the Hornets took a lead, and the match, in the 78th minute.

After a USF foul a few yards outside the box, dead center, Caitlin Pulver took a free kick, placing the ball around the Dons wall. The ball was fired directly at the San Francisco keeper, who initially made the save, but the ball spun out of Gabby Guaiumi's hands, through her legs and into the net.

San Francisco was led by freshman Mackenzie Krieser, who recorded three shots. Joan Piasta and Molly Hall each added two, while Jaciara Mello and Christina Moberg both took one.

The Dons continue their road trip Sunday as they face Nevada in Reno.
