MORAGA, Calif. - Despite being outshot 14-11 on the day, the San Francisco women's soccer team picked up a resounding 2-0 shutout at Saint Mary's on Friday afternoon.
The Dons' defensive clean sheet is the second shutout in a row for senior
Megan Connor, USF's forward turned goalkeeper from Oak Park, Calif. With the win, USF moves to 7-6-3, 2-3-0 WCC while the Gaels fall to 6-8-2, 1-3-0 WCC.
USF's first strike of the match came in the 36th minute of action when
Mackenzie Krieser, sophomore from Medford, Ore., netted her team-high ninth goal of the season. She took the ball in from the left side of the box about 12 yards out and past Gaels keeper Khayla Jones for the eventual game-winning goal, her conference-high fifth of the season.
The Dons tallied a second score with just over two minues to play as
Christina Moberg, a junior from Kristiansand, Norway, booted in her first goal of the season on an empty net try.
Statistically, Krieser led the way for the Dons with six shots, and four on frame. Moberg added three total shots and
Alex Alugas had two attempts that were saved by Jones. Connor tallied three saves en route to the shutout.
Up next for USF is a trip to San Diego to face Loyola Marymount on Sunday at 1 p.m.
