BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Despite an early goal from sophomore Mackenzie Krieser, the University of San Francisco women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to host Cal State Bakersfield Sunday evening. The loss was the first of the season for San Francisco, as its record drops to 1-1-2 on the season.
Krieser struck early, scoring at 8:09, to give the Dons the early 1-0 lead. Krieser nabbed the ball off of a turnover, resulting in a breakaway goal for her first goal of the season. Throughout the four games so far, all of San Francisco's scoring efforts have come thanks to freshmen and sophomores, accounting for four goals and three assists.
CSUB (1-3) answered in the 33rd minute as Erica Shelton fired a shot into the back right corner of the net to tie the score 1-1.
The score would stand through halftime, until the Roadrunners scored the game-winning goal at 61:31. Emily Noethe connected with a long pass from Daisy Vazquez to score from about eight yards out.
Krieser led the Dons offense on the evening with five shots, three of which were on goal. San Francisco fired just seven shots in the match, while Bakersfield fired 15.
Freshman Madalyn Schiffel played in net for the Dons, recording seven saves.
