GAME NOTES

SAN FRANCISCO—The Dons had some tough luck last week in its matches against San Diego and BYU but the offense seemed to get better looks as the weekend wore on. This bodes well as the Dons will take on West Coast Conference newcomer Pacific on Friday night.

San Francisco has dropped its first three conference matches but with six more to go, there is plenty of time to get back into the race.

The Dons are 10-5-1 all-time against Pacific and won last year's contest 1-0. Madayln Schiffel had four saves in the game and the one goal was scored by Lauren Abuali.

ALUGAS, NAKAE LOOKING STRONG
That offensive spark the Dons developed over the weekend came from Alex Alugas and Jessica Nakae. The two showed good energy and had very good looks at the goal. Nakae had the best look when late in the match against San Diego her shot from about 25 yards out went just over the crossbar.

GOAL DROUGHT CONTINUES
The Dons have yet to score in conference play and have not scored a goal in nearly a month. San Francisco last scored in the second half of its match against Oregon on Sept. 20. It is the longest such streak since 2008 when USF ended the season with seven straight scoreless games.

HOLDING DOWN THE FORT
Despite the offensive struggles, the defense has kept the Dons competitive in nearly every game. Schiffel has recorded five shutouts this season and is allowing one goal per game. USF is second in the WCC and 99th in the nation in save percentage at .806, trailing only Pepperdine (.837).

SLOWING TEAMS DOWN EARLY
Since the beginning of WCC play, the Dons have not done well in slowing down its opponents in the first half. All four goals scored against San Francisco have come in the first period. In their 11 preseason matches, only two goals were scored in the first half.

KRIESER POWER OUTAGE
Mackenzie Krieser scored nine goals in her sophomore season but has been held to one so far this season and it came in the season opener against Nevada. She has gone 13 games without a goal, a career-high.

ABOUT PACIFIC (2-8-2, 1-1-0)
The Tigers come into the contest having allowed 21 goals on the season but have surrendered only one in its two WCC matches thus far. The one came against No. 10 Portland. Tashia Long has been their primary goalkeeper and has recorded just one shutout but that was last Friday at Saint Mary's. Their record may not look pretty but they have played well recently.
