SAN FRANCISCO- USF pulls out a strong 4-3 performance against Saint Mary's to finish their last match at home of the regular season on a positive note.
USF completes their regular season home matches with and undefeated record of 7-0. The Dons overall record is 11-7 and 6-3 in the WCC.
After Genevieve McCloskey and Thyra Taune dominated their 6-0 win against Daniel Flores and Mary-Anne Jessup, Sofia Holmberg and Milica Hadzi-Tanovic missed the mark in a back-to-back match against Jamie Pawid and Kareena Manji, 7-6 (2).
With the Gaels claiming the first singles match at No. 5 singles providing Saint Mary's with a two-point lead, USF worked out the rest of their singles matches to take back the match.
Andrea Ka was victorious against Daniel Flores at No.1 singles 6-2, 6-4. She is currently 6-1 in WCC play and has an astonishing 22-5 overall record. Thyra Taune tied up the match 2-2 against Saint Mary's as she dominated a two set win against Jana McCord 6-1, 6-4.
Hadzi-Tanovic gained the lead for USF after losing her first set 3-6 to Catherine Leduc, to take the final two sets 6-3, 6-4.
The Gaels responded as they picked up No. 3 singles to tie once again tie the match, 3-3, against the Dons. It was up to Holmberg to clinch the match at No. 6 singles for USF.
Holmberg showed her determination after falling 5-7 to Emma Critser in the first set to push through and win the next two sets 6-3, 7-5, capping the huge 4-3 against Saint Mary's for the Green and Gold.
Up next for the Dons will be a non-conference match tomorrow, as they head to Berkley to face No. 3 California at 3:30 pm.
