SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Paced by three women in the Top 10, the San Francisco cross country team finished third in the West Coast Conference Championships on Friday morning from Tecolote Shores in Mission Bay Park.

The 13th-ranked women were neck in neck for the title, battling with BYU through the first four split times, but the Dons were eventually overtaken by both the Cougars and Portland by the finish. Just five points separated the top three teams in the final standings as the Pilots took the team and individual crowns with 42 points, followed by 44 points for BYU and a 47-point tally for the Dons.

A trio of USF runners finished in the Top 10 to earn All-WCC honors. Marie Bouchard raced to third with a time of 20:56.0 with teammate Weronika Pyzik crossing the line in 21:01.8 to take fifth. Senior Elena Burkard has now earned All-WCC accolades in all three of her appearances at the conference meet, taking second in 2012 and fourth 2015.

Taking 15th overall as the fourth Don to cross the line, Tatjana Schulte's time of 21:26.4 was good for honorable mention recognition. The final USF runner to score team points was Isabelle Brauer, suiting up for her first collegiate cross country race for the Green and Gold. Brauer clocked in two-tenths of a second behind Schulte to earn 17th place. The deep USF team traveled nine to the championships, with Frederique Latraverse (24th – 22:09.0), Daryl Phill (25th – 22:12.1) and Magdalena Dias (31st – 22:34.8) rounding out the USF women to finish the race.

Portland's Lauren Larocco earned the individual title easing to a time of 20:27.8, nearly 24 seconds faster than second-place competitor Yesenia Silva of BYU and USF's Bouchard.

Up next, the Dons will travel to Sacramento's Haggin Oaks Golf Club for the NCAA West Regionals on Nov. 11. USF, currently ranked No. 4 in the West behind Washington, Oregon and Portland, will vie for a bid to the NCAA Championships which will be contested on Nov. 19, in Terre Haute, Ind.
