USF's women's golf team returns to action on Monday when the Dons join the 14-team field at the Sacramento State Invitational, which will be held at the Sierra View Country Club in Roseville, Calif.
Joining the Dons and the host Hornets will be teams from Cal Poly, CSUN, Eastern Washington, Idaho State, Montana, Montana State, Nevada, North Dakota, Northern Colorado, Santa Clara, Seattle, Utah Valley and Weber State.
The teams will play 36 holes on Monday and the final 18 on Tuesday. The Sierra View Country Club will play to a length of 6,008 yards and a par of 72 for this event. Live scoring will be available on Golfstat.com.
Sacramento State won last year's event with a winning score of 901 (+37) while Montana's Barbora Bakova earned medalist honors at 6-over 222.
The Sacramento State Invitational is a homecoming for USF senior Clare Sorensen, a Roseville native who attended Christian Brothers High School and sophomore Emily Laskin, who grew up in nearby Elk Grove. Both players are familiar with the Jack Fleming-designed Sierra View layout.
USF hopes to be close to full strength for the tournament after having played its last two events without key players Ayaka Suzuki and Emelie Lundstrom, who have been nursing injuries.
The Dons hope to use this event to improve its national ranking as the team eyes an at-large berth into the NCAA Regionals later this spring. USF is currently ranked 53rd in the Golfstat.com rankings, which puts the Dons on the bubble for a berth into regionals.
"We're to the part of the season that every shot matters," said head coach Sarah Glynn. "We haven't been at full strength this spring but it's time to start building momentum for what will hopefully to a strong finish to the season."
USF is coming off a tie for third at the BYU Entrada Classic, where the Dons finished 29-strokes behind first place BYU on the difficult Snow Canyon course. Vanessa Ha was USF's top finisher, as the sophomore earned a share of ninth place with a 10-over score of 226.
Following the Sacramento State Invitational, the Dons will have a few weeks off before the Silverado Showdown, where USF will join one of the strongest fields of the spring.
