The Rundown
SAN FRANCISCO - The University of San Francisco Dons (23-20, 12-8 WCC) baseball team fell in their third consecutive extra innings game, and their second against Santa Clara (19-21, 6-11 WCC), 12-5.

Santa Clara would get the scoring started in the first inning. After the first batter of the game struck out, the Broncos would get a single, an error by
Jack Winkler would put runners on first and second.
Riley Ornido would commit a throwing error on an attempted pick-off at second base, which would allow the runners to advance to second and third. Back-to-back walks and a hit batter would bring home two runs, giving Santa Clara a 2-0 lead.

USF would cut the lead to one in the fourth inning, which started with a lead-off single from
Michael Perri. The senior would steal second before being driven in by a single from
Brady Bate to make it 2-1.

The Broncos would get a pair of runs in the sixth inning. A one-out triple would begin the inning, followed by a walk to put runners on first and third. The runner from third would come in on a bunt that would see everyone reach safely, putting runners on first and second. The second run of the inning would come on a ground ball to shortstop. Looking to turn the double play, Perri's throw to
Aaron Ping would be too low and roll into the outfield grass, which would allow the runner to score from second and make it 4-1, Santa Clara.

The Dons would even up the game in the bottom of the seventh inning. After a throwing error by the Broncos second baseman allowed Winkler to reach safely, USF would have runners on first and third with two-outs. Villaroman would come up and strikeout swinging, but he would reach first on a wild pitch that allowed Yovetich to score from third. After a walk from
Jonathan Allen would load the bases,
Riley Helland would launch a double off the netting in right field to bring Winkler and Villaroman around to score and even the game at 4-4.

With the game in extra innings, Santa Clara would take the lead in the tenth inning with a lead-off home run from John Cresto. The Dons would come out in the bottom half of the inning and tie the ball game. The inning would get going with a lead-off double from Perri. The senior would come around when he stole third base and the catcher's throw would go down the left field, allowing Perri to make it 5-5.

The Broncos would add seven runs in the 11th with three coming in way of a three-run home run from Jake Brodt to make it 8-5. Two more runs coming from double and a single would increase the Broncos lead to 10-5. Santa Clara would add another two runs on an RBI double into deep left field by Joe Becht to finish the inning, and game, at 12-5, Broncos.

With this loss the Dons are now 23-20 and 12-8 in the WCC. They will look to take the win in the final game of the series tomorrow with first pitch set for 1 p.m.
