BRYAN, Texas – The University of San Francisco men's golf team wrapped up its practice round at the Traditions Club on Sunday and are ready to take on the field at the opening round of the NCAA Bryan Regional on Monday morning.
The Dons are back in action capturing fifth at the West Coast Conference Championship in April. USF was led by senior Jalen Griffin and freshman Toby Briggs, who both finished tied for ninth. The Dons are one of a record five teams from the WCC who have advanced to the NCAA Regionals. Santa Clara, Saint Mary's, Pepperdine, and BYU will all be playing this week.
This is the sixth time the Dons have advanced to the NCAA Regionals, and the first time since USF went for the third year in a row in 2013. The Dons have never advanced to the NCAA Finals. The closest USF came to advancing was in 2012 when the Dons finished seventh, just four strokes back the coveted fifth spot at the Stanford Regional. The first time USF made the regionals came in 1991 when the Dons were led by All-American and future PGA Player Todd Fischer. That year, Fischer finished his senior season ranked second nationally in stroke average, behind a player from Arizona State named Phil Mickelson.
