STOCKTON, Calif. – With under 15 seconds to play in the first overtime, senior
Miciah Madison blasted a ball past the Pacific (3-11-0/0-4-0 WCC) keeper for the golden goal. With the win, the University of San Francisco women's soccer team (9-4-2/2-1-1 WCC) improves to 5-1-1 on the road this season, thanks in part to three goals scored after the intermission.
"It was end to end, we pulled the heroics off again tonight," said head coach
Jim Millinder. "We weren't sharp enough defensively, we weren't sharp enough in the final third, we had a lot of chances. You can't let teams hang around, especially on the road. Every match is a tough one, you can't overlook anybody. Pacific played their tails off tonight and worked really hard and took it to us. But at the end of the day we get the result and got the W."
HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Dons applied plenty of offensive pressure from early on in the contest. USF had four corner kicks in the opening 20 minutes, but was unable to find the back of the net. However, in the 31
st minute it was the Tigers who scored first, when Sigrid Aas found Ryanne Molenaar all by herself, and she sent a ball past Camera for the early 1-0 lead.
• USF went into the locker room trailing 1-0, but overall dominated the time of possession in the first half. USF had a slim 5-4 shot advantage, but had a 6-2 advantage on corner kicks. The Dons finished the first half with just two shots on goal, one each by
Samantha Jehnings and
Ashley Humphrey.
• In the 62
nd minute the Dons knotted it up when
Marie Marlow blasted a ball lower center past the keeper for her first career goal.
• About 14 minutes later the Tigers retook the lead on a goal scored by Hunter More in the 75
th minute. The Goal by More was scored when the Dons couldn't clear the ball in the box, leaving More to corral the loose ball and send it past Camera for the goal.
• The Dons wasted no time getting their second equalizer of the night.
Miciah Madison ended up with a ball in space and raced towards the goal. The UOP keeper made an incredible save to keep Madison off the board, but was unable to hold on to the ball, leaving
Ashley Humphrey with an open look for her fifth goal of the season.
• With less than a minute remaining, the USF had yet another chance to put the game away. The Dons had a corner kick – their 18
th of the night – with under 15 seconds remaining. USF found the back of the net, but the goal was waved off with the Dons getting called on a foul.
• With time running out at the end of the first overtime,
Miciah Madison sent USF home happy, scoring a golden goal--her third game winning goal of the year.
