Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

WSOC | Dons Blast Gaels to Open Conference Play

Video Highlights

MORAGA, Calif. – The University of San Francisco women's soccer team routed host Saint Mary's 4-0, thanks to a four-goal barrage to open the second half.  With the win, the Dons improve to 8-3-1 (1-0-0 WCC), and the Gaels fall to 6-5-0 (0-1-0 WCC).  Keely Roy finished the afternoon with a career-high five points on two goals and an assist.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The first 20 minutes of the contest was rather uneventful, with both sides trading a pair of shots.  At the 21st minute Miciah Madison received a pass and was one-on-one with the SMC goalie. However, she was unable to get a shot off with the Gaels' keeper, Maleah Milner (6-5-0), making a tremendous diving effort at the ball to keep the game scoreless.

• The first half ended in a 0-0 tie with the Dons outshooting the Gaels 6-4. Each side only managed one shot on goal, with Olivia Camera easily saving the Gaels attempt on net.  Samantha Jehnings led the Dons with two shots in the opening half, to lead all players.

• The second half belonged to the Dons.  USF wasted no time putting the contest away, scoring four times in the first seven minutes of the half.  Jehnings scored the game's first goal 29 seconds into the half, when she took a pass from Miciah Madison and sent a bolt past Milner.

• Madison wasted little time getting her seventh goal of the season.  Two minutes after the goal by Jehnings, Madison took a pass from Keely Roy in the box and easily sent the ball to the back of the net.

• Following the goal by Madison it became the Keely Roy show.  Roy scored the first of her two goals in the 50th minute, when she blasted a shot to the top left corner of the goal from the far corner of the penalty area.  Two minutes later she scored again, when she took a pass from Madison up the middle with an open look.

NOTABLE NUMBERS
1-0-0: The Dons open conference play with a win for the first time since 2015, when USF defeated then No. 19 Santa Clara 1-0 on the road.
2: With her two goals on the day, Keely Roy joins Samantha Jehnings, Miciah Madison, and Ashley Humphrey with multi-goal games.
4: The 4-0 win is the largest margin of victory by the Dons over the Gaels.
6: The win by the Dons makes it six-straight over their rivals in the East Bay; it is the longest winning streak by the Dons against the Gaels.
7 and 7: The goals by Jehnings and Madison are their seventh of the year.  The seven goals by Madison is a career-high and gives her 16 for her career.
