LOS ANGELES – The University of San Francisco women's soccer team improved to 3-1-0 with a huge statement win over Big Ten foe Illinois at Sullivan Field in Los Angeles on Sunday. USF scored twice in the first half and added a third in the second en route to a dominating 3-0 win over the Illini.

"Great team win, we came with a game plan and we couldn't have executed that plan any better," said head coach Jim Millinder. We attacked them on the flanks, our speed of play was good, we shared the ball up front a ton and that got us a lot of good looks, we have a lot of new faces scoring goals for us and that's huge. Defensively we were solid, we got a clean sheet against a team that just beat Pepperdine which is No. 22 in the nation! We preach that everyone has a role and if they execute we are going to play a lot of really good soccer."

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Illinois had the advantage in the early pressure, taking the game's first four shots with one on target. USF's defense was up to the task, keeping the Fighting Illini from taking another shot for over 20 minutes.

• In the 23^rd minute Keely Roy notched her first collegiate goal, taking a feed from Kalena Teufel and blasting it past the Illini' keeper to put the Dons out front 1-0.

• Five minutes later Sydney Cooper took the feed from Roy on a corner kick and notched her second goal of the season to put the Dons up two.

• In the second half, USF's defense maintained its stranglehold on the Illinois attack, holding the Illini to zero shots in the first 20 minutes of the second half. Samantha Jehnings extended the Dons' lead, taking a pass from Teufel and sending it past the keeper for her third goal of the season.

NOTABLE NUMBERS
0: The Dons recorded their second consecutive shutout, holding Illinois scoreless after defeating San Diego State 1-0 on Friday.
1: Freshman Keely Roy scored her first collegiate goal, a game-winner.
2: USF tallied two first-half goals. In their previous two games, the Dons were held in check in the first half.
5: The Dons defense was impressive, holding Illinois to just five shots the remainder of the game after Illinois had four shots in the first 13 minutes of the contest.
27: Senior Samantha Jehnings' goal in the 63^rd minute was the third of the season and 27^th for her career. She is now one shy of tying Chelsea Hunt (2003-06) for third all-time with 28 career goals.
