SEATTLE, WA -- The University of San Francisco women's soccer team (3-4-1, 0-1-0 WCC) opened West Coast Conference play with a 4-0 setback against Seattle U (7-3-2, 1-0-0 WCC) Saturday evening at Championship Field.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT

Seattle U opened the scoring in the fifth minute as U'i Kaaihue converted a penalty kick at 4:29 to give the Redhawks an early 1-0 advantage.
San Francisco generated its first opportunity shortly after, as Hannah Burns put an attempt on frame in the eighth minute that was turned away by Seattle U goalkeeper Kassidy Kirgan.
The Redhawks doubled their advantage at 24:02 when Katie Piburn found the back of the net off an assist from Leila Leano.
Bella Bonnett recorded another shot on goal for the Dons in the 35th minute, but Kirgan made the save to keep San Francisco off the board.
Seattle U added its third goal just before halftime as Emily Sparks scored at 43:19, sending the Redhawks into the break ahead 3-0.
San Francisco continued to search for its first goal early in the second half, with Burns and Sydni Yoshida each recording attempts within a minute of one another.
The Redhawks extended their lead to 4-0 in the 71st minute when Kyla Schuster scored off assists from Imani Newby and Kailee Wilson.
The Dons continued to push late, but Seattle U held on to secure the 4-0 final.

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES

Burns paced San Francisco offensively with two shots, including one on goal.
Bonnett and Rylie Whittaker each added one shot on goal as the Dons finished with six total shots and three attempts on frame.
Grace Wilson recorded six saves across 68:38 in goal before Tyra Bengtsson-Stenseth entered for the final 21:22 and added two saves.
San Francisco's goalkeepers combined for eight saves against 12 Seattle U shots on goal.

UP NEXT

San Francisco remains on the road when it travels to Moraga to face Saint Mary's at 4 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 2, at Saint Mary's Stadium. The contest will mark the Dons' second WCC match of the season.
