SAN FRANCISCO – It did not take long for the University of San Francisco women's soccer team to score the first of their five goals as USF (4-1-1) cruised to a lopsided 5-0 win over visiting UC Riverside at their home opener Thursday evening at Negoesco Stadium.

USF's talented front line had the clear advantage as USF finished the night with 11 shots, nine on goal with five finding the back of the net. Senior forward Miciah Madison finished with two goals and two assists. UC Riverside (0-4-0) finished the night with seven shots, with one on goal.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• It only took 37 seconds for the Dons to capture 1-0 advantage when Madison took the opening kick and raced up the middle of the surprised Highlander defense for the first of her two goals on the evening.

• A little over 10 minutes later it was fellow senior Samantha Jehnings turn as she sent a header past the Highlander keeper on the right side of the goal off the feed from Madison. Twelve seconds later the Dons had a 3-0 advantage when Madison intercepted a Highlander pass at midfield and once again was off to the races, beating the keeper to the right with a blast from 15 yards out with her right foot.

• The Highlanders one shot on goal came in the 41^st minute when UCR's Jennifer Barroso took a shot to the bottom right of the goal that was quickly scooped up by Olivia Camera (4-1-0) for her only save of the evening. The Dons keeper notched her third consecutive clean sheet thanks in part to USF's stellar defense that limited the Highlander to just seven shots.

• USF's depth took over late with goals by Kalena Teufel in the 60^th minute, once again off an assist from Madison. Samantha Curwood-Wagner scored her first collegiate goal in the 76^th minute off the pass from Ashley Humphrey.

NOTABLE NUMBERS
1: The one shot on goal by UCR is a season-low by a USF opponent in 2019. The last time the Dons held an opponent to just one shot on goal game in USF's 2-1 win over Saint Mary's in the 2018 regular season finale last year. Under Head coach Jim Millinder the Dons are 6-0 when holding an opponent to one or fewer shots on goal. They went 3-0 in 2018 and 2-0 in 2014.
5: The five goals scored are the most by USF since they defeated Sacramento State 5-0 on Sep. 14, 2018.
6: Miciah Madison's six points off her two goals and two assists are the most by a USF player since Madison had five points (one goal, three assists) in the win over Sacramento State last season.
28: With her goal in the 12^th minute, senior Samantha Jehnings moves into a tie at third all-time with Chelsea Hunt (2003-06) with 28 career goals scored. Next on the list is Kellie Bryant (1992-95) with 33 career goals.
45:00: The Dons once again kept their opponents off the scoreboard in the first 45 minutes. It is the longest streak since the Dons accomplished the same feat in 2013 when they also opened the year 4-1-0.
