In the latest edition of Tuesday Testimonial, host Frank Allocco, had a chance to chat with USF Hall of Famer and Bay Area native Dennis Black.
The two discussed Black's Bay Area roots, when the Berkeley native first became aware of USF and how he was able to make an impact early in his career, to how he transitioned to life after basketball.
A three-time all-conference honoree, Dennis Black is all over the USF record book. He still ranks in the top-20 in career points with 1,269 points, he's eighth all-time in rebounds with 786, seven in rebounds per game with 9.9 and fourth in free throws made with 411.
Playing alongside Hall of Fame players Erwin Mueller, Joe Ellis, and Russ Gumina, Black averaged 10.1 points per gsme while shooting 54.4 percent from the field in the 1965-66 season. He also grabbed 7.8 rebounds per contest which was third on the team behind Ellis and Mueller.
The following year with the graduation of those three seniors, Black took over. His junior year he earned the first of his two First Team All-WCAC honors. He led the Dons averaging 19.1 points per game while grabbing 12.5 rebounds per contest, all while shooting 46.2 percent from the field
In his senior campaign he once again led the Dons in both scoring (19.9 points per game) and rebounds (9.9 rebounds per game). In WCAC he finished with 18.0 points per contest.
