SAN FRANCISCO - San Francisco Men's Basketball assistant coaches Jay Duncan and Frankie Ferrari were named to the 2026 Silver Waves Media Top Most Impactful Mid Major Assistant Coaches list, as announced on Monday by the organization.Â
In the last four years, this prestigious college basketball list includes over 40 coaches from these lists who have gone on to become head coaches.Â
Entering his fifth season with the Dons, Duncan has been a part of the Dons' program which has boasted an overall winning record in every year he's been on the staff. With Duncan on staff, the Dons have posted an 85-51 record, notched three straight seasons of 20 wins or more, back-to-back NIT appearances and 13 All-WCC selections, including six first-team honorees. Duncan previously was one of 75 Division I coaches invited the 2026 Silver Waves Media Elite 75 Power Lunch, a highly selective event held on the campus of IU Indianapolis during Final Four weekend
After a successful career as a student-athlete for the Dons, Ferrari returned to his alma mater as an assistant coach in 2023. Since joining the coaching staff, Ferrari has been a key part of back-to-back postseason runs in 2023-24 and 24-25, guiding USF to two NIT appearances, a 23-win campaign in his first season and a 25-win season in his second. No stranger to recognition from Silver Waves Media, Ferrari previously was selected in back-to-back years as a member of their "Next Up" Rising Stars Power Lunch, honoring the top rising stars in the college basketball coaching profession.
Duncan, Ferrari and the Dons open the 2026-27 campaign on Monday, Nov. 2 against Radford at 7 p.m. from Sobrato Center at War Memorial Gym. The Dons will also host San Francisco State for an exhibition game on Monday, Oct. 26 at 7 p.m.
