Dons Wrap Up Road Schedule With a Draw in San Diego

SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- Heading to Southern California for the third straight Saturday, the USF Dons women's soccer team (6-5-6, 1-3-3) was in action on Saturday afternoon for the final time this year away from the Hilltop as they battled to a 0-0 draw against the San Diego Toreros (2-10-5, 0-5-2) at Torero Stadium.

Making her first start in goal since sustaining an injury, Megan Nail put together a tremendous afternoon in goal as she was able to record seven saves and her third clean sheet of the season on Saturday afternoon.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
  • Both offenses worked hard to generate good looks in the first 45 minutes of action, but both defenses were up to the task with each side attempting 10 shots with none of them finding the back of the net as it was a 0-0 draw at halftime.
  • The Dons came out more aggressive in the second half against the Toreros as the out shot their hosts by an 11-8 margin in the back half of the game but were unable to score the go-ahead goal as USF earned their sixth draw of the season and their third in WCC play.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
  • Nail picked up right where she left of this season as she was able to record seven shots on 18 shots faced against the Toreros on Sunday to improve her overall record to 5-3-4 on the season in matches she starts.
  • Marissa Vasquez was aggressive within the USF attack on Saturday as she led her team with four total shots against USD.
  • Elle Soleau also was able to create a few good offensive opportunities for the Dons as she recorded three shots in Saturday's match, while Lindsey Chau and Ana Gorlach each recorded two of their own for USF.
POST GAME WITH THE DONS:

Head Coach Jim Millinder-- "It was a hard fought battle once again. I thought USD were a little bit better in the first half and we were the better team in the second half. I'm not sure how we didn't score in the second half. We had some great chances we just couldn't find the winner, it was a frustrating afternoon. We had some good performances today by several players. It's disappointing for everyone not to get a result. But you need to score goals that's what the game is all about. We need to get ready for Portland."

UP NEXT:
The Dons now return home for their final two home matches of the 2022 regular season starting with hosting the Portland Pilots on Thursday, Nov. 3 at 7:00 p.m. from Negoesco Stadium. The Pilots won last season's battle between the two teams as they secured the 1-0 home victory back in the Pacific Northwest.
