SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. -- As the 2022 collegiate soccer regular season reaches its final week, the USF Dons women's soccer team (6-5-6, 1-3-3) are back home for their final two matches of the fall as they will host the Portland Pilots (11-2-4, 5-2) on Wednesday Nov. 2 at 7:00 p.m. and Bay Area rival the Saint Mary's Gaels (5-5-6, 1-3-3) on Saturday Nov. 5 at 7:00 p.m. from Negoesco Stadium.
The Dons were in action last Saturday in their final road match of the season as they earned a scoreless draw against the San Diego Toreros to finish the 2022 season with an impressive 5-2-3 record away from the Hilltop. This marks the first time since the 2019 season that USF has posted a winning record on the road.
DONS AT A GLANCE:
- USF was back in action last week in Southern California as junior goal keeper Megan Nail made her return from injury and didn't allow a goal against the Toreros as she made seven saves and recorded her third clean sheet of the season.
- The Dons' defense as a whole has been strong through the middle and back half of WCC play, as USF has allowed just a total of four goals in their last four matches and are unbeaten in that some time frame.
- With just two more games remaining on the conference schedule, the Dons will look to complete the regular season on a high note as junior Marissa Vasquez is currently tied for fifth in the conference with six goals on the season as her strong third season on the Hilltop has been key for USF this season.
SCOUTING THE PILOTS:
- It's been a strong season as a whole for the Pilots as they enter Wednesday night's match in third place in the conference standings as they've won five of their seven WCC matches and have yet to end in a draw during conference play.
- Offensively, the Portland attack is spearheaded by sophomore forward Cally Togiai and redshirt freshman forward Kayla Adams as both have totaled five goals this season for the Pilots who are currently fourth in the WCC with 29 goals as a team this season.
- In goal for the Pilots, sophomore goal keeper Bre Norris has put together a tremendous season as she leads the WCC with an .855 save percentage and is third in the conference with 65 saves on the season.
SCOUTING THE GAELS:
- Saint Mary's enters Saturday's season finale boasting a similar record to the Dons as the two programs shared one mutual non-conference opponent as each defeated UC San Diego on the road with both teams scoring four goals against the Tritons.
- Leading the way for the Gaels' offense in 2022 has been the play of senior forward Nayeli Diaz who has a team-high six goals this season and has contributed four assists as well to account for 16 points on the season.
- In goal for Saint Mary's, junior Taylor Poland has started and played every minute of her team's 16 matches this season as she's fourth in the WCC with 61 saves and has posted a .772 save percentage.
