SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - Fresh off another win over a ranked Santa Clara team, the University of San Francisco women's soccer team (6-6-3, 3-1-1 WCC) secured their second victory of the week by blanking San Diego (1-13-2, 0-5-1 WCC), 3-0, at Negoesco Stadium on Saturday night.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- Allison Kamansky started the attack early for the green and gold with a shot on goal in the third minute of the match.
- Shortly after, Lindsey Chau and San Diego defender Talei Moodie fired off two shots each between the seventh and tenth minutes, with Chau nearly scoring on her two attempts - the first being saved by Toreros goalkeeper Ilise Medrano and the second missing just to the left of the goal.
- Ellie Weissenberg got into the mix with a shot on target in the 19th minute and Marissa Vasquez fired off her first two shots of the match in the 30th and 31st minutes.
- In the 32nd minute of the match, Lindsey Chau attempted back-to-back shots, with the second shot finding the back of the net to put the Dons on the board with a 1-0 lead.
- Defense was key in the final 13 minutes of the first half as neither team attempted a shot following the lone goal of the period. Heading into the break, San Francisco maintained its one-score advantage.
- Opening the second half on the pitch, USFÂ eagerly looked to extend its lead, attempting seven shots in the first 17 minutes of the half, with four of those attempts coming from Vasquez.
- In the 68th minute, on the Dons' eighth shot attempt of the period, Jackie Koerwitz netted San Francisco's second goal of the match on a shot just outside the box to double the advantage to 2-0.
- Joining the party for the first time in her collegiate career, Konstantina Konidaris delivered a beautiful ball in the 84th minute that snuck past the oustretched arms of the opposing keeper to push the score to 3-0 in favor of the green and gold.
- Locking down on defense to close out the match, San Francisco hung on to secure their second straight win by a final score of 3-0 over San Diego.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
- Tonight's match marked USF's second straight shutout victory and the sixth shutout overall on the season. Notably, the Dons have allowed just one goal across their last five matches at home.
- After finishing with four goals in her debut season on the Hilltop last year, Chau scored for the first time this fall on Saturday night as she tied her season-high with four shots on the night.
- Continuing to heat up down the stretch, Vasquez tallied a new season-high with six shots against the Toreros.
UP NEXT:
San Francisco will head back on the road next weekend seeking a season-high three-game win streak in a match against the Portland Pilots on Saturday, Oct. 28 at 7:00 p.m. at Merlo Field. Live streaming and live statistics are available via theÂ
team's schedule page.
