THINGS TO KNOW:
  • The Dons enter Tuesday afternoon's battle with the Spartans feeling good after their three game sweep of the Wildcats as USF received their second consecutive strong starting pitching performances as both Adam Shew and Jesse Barron combined to toss 13 innings and only allow three earned runs against Villanova.
  • At the plate, Harris Williams III has been thriving as the Dons' leadoff hitter as he's posted an astonishing .500 batting average through the season's first eight games with five extra base hits and a team-high 12 RBI. His biggest threat to the opposition might be once he gets on base as his nine stolen bases on the season currently ranks first in the West Coast Conference.
  • Providing a huge spark for USF in the series finale victory over Villanova, Ryan Martinez and Tyler Martinez combined to go 5-for-8 as a great offensive spark at the bottom of the batting order that helped propel the Dons to the sweep with their speed and high-contact approach at the plate.
SCOUTING THE SPARTANS:
  • San Jose State enters Tuesday's game feeling good following back-to-back victories over conference rival San Jose State after being swept by Washington and taking two of three over LMU on the road to begin their season.
  • Redshirt junior utility player Hunter Dorraugh has been an impact bat for his team in the early portions of the season as he's posted a team-high .351 batting average with five doubles, a home run and seven RBI to begin the season as he's started the first eight games of the 2023 season.
  • Set to make his first appearance of the 2023 season against USF, left-hander Ethan Ross who appeared in 21 games and made 15 starts last season compiling a 1-5 record with a 7.81 as opponents hit .280 against him last season.
