DONS AT A GLANCE:
- In their last time on the pitch, San Francisco shutout No. 13 Santa Clara, 3-0, at home on Thursday, Sept. 21. Impressively, USF scored three goals in four minutes as Alex Carpio, Jackie Koerwitz and Ellie Weissenberg each found the back of the net in the victory. Notably, the Dons defeated a ranked Broncos team at Negoesco Stadium for the second time in three years with the win.Â
- Heading into conference play, Marissa Vasquez is currently tied for fifth in the WCC in shots (27) while Alex Carpio is currently tied for sixth in goals (4). In the cage, Kira Ybarra is tied for third with three shutouts on the year so far.
- Looking ahead, the green and gold will play two of their first three conference games on the Hilltop as the Dons travel to Gonzaga next Saturday, Oct. 7 before returning home to Negoesco Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 14 for a showdown against Loyola Marymount.
SCOUTING THE GAELS:
- Last time out, Saint Mary's drew a scoreless tie on the road at UC Santa Barbara on Sunday, Sept. 17. With the draw, the Gaels extended their unbeaten streak to six games as SMC has not lost since a 3-1 defeat at No. 2 Stanford on Aug. 27.
- Within the conference, Briana Salvetti has been dangerous on offense as she is currently second in the WCC in both goals (8) and points (20). Overall, she also sits right behind Vasquez in shots as she is currently seventh in the conference with 26 total attempts.
- Defensively, Saint Mary's has been strong as a team as the Gaels currently allow just 1.00 goal per game, good for third in the WCC.Â
SERIES HISTORY:
- Since 1985, San Francisco is 14-24-2 in the head-to-head series against Saint Mary's. Last year, the Dons downed the Gaels, 1-0, at home to close out the 2022 regular season.
