Gaels Take Down Dons in Moraga

MORAGA, Calif. - Making the short trip across the Bay Bridge, the University of San Francisco women's soccer team (4-7-2, 0-3-2 WCC) could not find their rhythm on Saturday afternoon as the Dons fell on the road at Saint Mary's (5-6-3, 2-2-2 WCC), 2-0.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
  • Starting out the match on the attack, San Francisco recorded the first shot of the game when Alex Carpio fired the ball towards the Saint Mary's goal, but the forward ultimately missed wide left.
  • In the minutes to follow, Kira Ybarra kept the Gaels off the scoreboard by recording saves at 8:48 and 10:13. At the 18:00 mark, Gabby Rizzo logged a shot of her own for the green and gold, but the graduate student missed wide right.
  • Following the first 45 minutes of action, the two teams remained scoreless heading into the locker room.
  • Defending their home field in the second half, SMC got on the scoreboard when Sydney Middaugh found Brittany Holden to put the Gaels up 1-0.
  • As the half played on, Kaitlyn Sasadeusz and Isabella Ayau attempt shots for San Francisco, but neither were lucky in leveling the score. At 79:26, Isabel Lendman doubled the advantage for Saint Mary's as she netted SMC's second goal of the match.
  • Coming off the bench, Kiana Faucette recorded a shot at 79:48, but was also unable to push one past the opposing goalkeeper.
  • Hanging on to secure the victory, Saint Mary's went on to defeat San Francisco, 2-0, on Saturday afternoon.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
  • Enjoying a strong performance in goal, Kira Ybarra logged her second-most saves in a match this season as the Long Beach native finished with seven saves against the Gaels.
  • Appearing in just her second collegiate game, Faucette recorded a new career-high with 45 minutes played on Saturday.
  • Staring her third collegiate match, Harpster tied her season-high with 72 minutes played against SMC.

San Francisco will return home to the Hilltop next Thursday, Oct. 24 as the Dons will host Gonzaga for a 7:00 pm matchup at Negoesco Stadium. Live streaming, live statistics and ticket links are available via the team's schedule page.
