Bulldogs Handle Dons on Thursday Evening

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - Back at home to open a three-match homestand, the University of San Francisco women's soccer team (4-8-2, 0-4-2 WCC) fell to Gonzaga (7-6-2, 3-2-1 WCC), 4-0, at Negoesco Stadium on Thursday night.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
  • With defense taking charge to begin the match, neither side recorded a shot until Hannah Gray of Gonzaga fired a shot off target at 13:44. For San Francisco, the first shot of the evening came off the foot of Lindsey Chau at 35:13, but the junior was unable to find the back of the net.
  • Just a few minutes later, the Bulldogs got on the scoreboard first when Chelsea Le found Paige Alexander for her first goal of the night to put GU up 1-0 at 38:14. Heading into the halftime break, Gonzaga maintained their one goal advantage.
  • Coming out of the locker room, Syndey Harpster and Chau each recorded shots of their own for the green and gold, but both were unable to convert.
  • At 55:05, Alexander netted her second strike of the contest to make it 2-0 in favor of Gonzaga. Shortly thereafter, Alexander then found Katelyn Rigg inside the box to make it 3-0 Bulldogs.
  • Down the stretch, Le contributed an assist of her own when she found Abbie Sicilia at 73:10 for another goal, which pushed the GU lead to 4-0.
  • In the closing moments of the contest, San Francisco pressed offensively, which included shots from Konstantina Konidaris, Erika Braun, Isabella Ayau and Chau. Despite these efforts, Gonzaga held on to defeat the Dons, 4-0, on Thursday night.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
  • Offensively, Chau was a bright spot for San Francisco as the forward finished with a match-high five shots against the Bulldogs.
  • Notably, Chau, Ayau and Konidaris each logged shots on frame for the green and gold.
  • In goal, Kira Ybarra logged four saves against Gonzaga, marking the seventh time this season and the sixth straight game in which she has tallied at least four saves.
