BERKELEY, Calif. – The University of San Francisco baseball team (17-20) kicked off its four-game road trip in the East Bay and dropped a 6-2 non-conference decision to California (21-14) Tuesday evening at Stu Gordon Stadium.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- A scoreless game through the first two innings of play, California scored five unanswered runs to jump ahead in the bottom of the third inning. C Lomavita started the affair with a hit by pitch, and the Golden Bears rattled off four straight hits from Green Jr., P Schulze, M Handron, and D Smaldino to go up 3-0. Cal added two more runs later in the frame to solidify the five-run advantage.
- Trailing 6-0 at the start of the sixth inning, the Dons cut the deficit to 6-2 on a TJ Rogers' two-run home run. Myles Kallinger kicked off the frame with an infield single, his second knock of the game, and later scored when Roger sent a long blast over the left-field wall.
- Rogers continued the Dons' comeback, producing an RBI single in the top of the eighth to cut the deficit to 6-3. Back-to-back base hits from Kallinger and Tyvon Moore began the inning, and Rogers followed with a liner to left field, scoring Kallinger trim the Golden Bears' advantage in half.
- San Francisco threatened when Kody Watanabe punched a one-out single through the right side of the infield, but was ultimately stranded as California struck out the final two batters.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES
- Rogers was near-perfect at the plate, going two-for-three with a home run, three RBI, and scored a run. Responsible for all of the Dons' offense throughout the contest, Rogers recorded his second-straight multi-hit game, 11th overall, and posted his fifth long ball of the season.
- Kallinger also totaled two hits, his first career multi-hit performance, and plated two runs.
- Eight pitchers saw action throughout, with Hunter Holzemer, Blake Shepardson, Quentin Pohorski, Gabriel Barrett, Matt McConnell, and Austin Cupic combined for 6.2 scoreless innings and nine strikeouts.
