Baseball Falls to San Diego in Series Opener

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The University of San Francisco baseball team (16-15, 7-3) fell to San Diego (13-18, 6-4) 9-2 in the series opener Friday afternoon at Benedetti Diamond.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- After San Diego jumped ahead early, San Francisco tied the game in the fourth inning. With the bases loaded, Tyler Harries scored on a Zack Ramppen sacrifice fly to center field, leveling the game at one.
- The Toreros quickly regained the lead and scored six unanswered runs, and held a 7-1 lead in the seventh inning.
- Isaiah Landry trimmed into the deficit in the home half of the seventh, recording a solo home run over the left-field wall to get the Dons to within 7-2.
- San Diego added to its lead in the top of the ninth, scoring twice to take a 9-2 advantage. The Toreros held the green and gold scoreless in the final frame to secure the victory.
- Four different players recorded a hit for the green and gold, with Landry going one-for-three with a home run, an RBI, and a run scored. He recorded his second long ball of the season, matching his career-high in home runs a season from the 2024 campaign at Alabama State.
- Gabriel Barrett earned the start on the mound and recorded five strikeouts in 5.1 innings while allowing four runs on 11 hits.
- The San Francisco pitching staff held San Diego without a walk throughout the contest, the second time during conference play the Dons allowed no walks in a game.
