
Baseball Outlasts Gonzaga to Stay Alive in WCC Tournament

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – The University of San Francisco baseball team (26-29) kept its West Coast Conference Tournament hopes alive, defeating Gonzaga (35-19) 6-5 on Friday afternoon at Scottsdale Stadium.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- San Francisco plated five runs at the bottom of the first inning, taking a 5-0 lead after RBI base hits from Jackson Nystrom, Eddison Esquivel, Tyler Harries, and Jayden Garrison.
- Gonzaga answered at the top of the second inning, scoring three times to trim its deficit to 5-3.
- Nystrom came through for the green and gold in the home half of the second, recording an RBI single, his second of the afternoon, for a 6-3 advantage.
- The Bulldogs continued to claw back into the contest in the following frame, scoring twice to get to within 6-5.
- San Francisco held Gonzaga scoreless for the next six innings, eliminating the Bulldogs with a 6-5 victory.
- Nystrom led the green and gold offensively, going two-for-four at the plate, his second multi-hit game during the tournament, with two RBI and a run scored.
- Harries also added a two-RBI performance as he plated two runs in the Dons' five-run first inning on a two-out double down the left-field line.
- Hunter Holzemer earned the win out of the bullpen, moving to 6-0 on the season. He finished the afternoon, allowing two runs on five hits and striking out a team-high four batters in 3.2 frames.
- Nick Bacura and Gabriel Barrett finished the contest with three scoreless innings, with Barrett earning his first save of the season.
UP NEXT:
San Francisco returns to Scottsdale Stadium for a second game at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, May 22, when it takes on Pacific for a chance to go to the championship series.
