SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - Squaring off against an SEC opponent on their home turf, the University of San Francisco women's soccer team (3-4) could not complete a second half comeback on Thursday night as LSU (5-1-1) defeated the Dons, 4-1, at Negoesco Stadium.
Â
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- LSU logged the first shots of the evening in the opening minutes of the contest, but Lindsey Chau fired back with an attempt of her own at the 8:35.
- Notching the opening score of the game just a few minutes later, Gabbi Ceballos found Ida Hermannsdottir for what proved to be her first of two goals in the match as the Tigers went up 1-0 at 13:32.
- In the minutes to follow, Kaitlyn Sasadeusz would have two opportunities to put home the equalizer, but the sophomore was unable to find the back of the net. At 29:08, Danielle Shannon scored for LSU to make it 2-0 in favor of the Tigers.
- Less than three minutes later, Ava Gilligan added to the lead for the visitors from Baton Rouge as her goal at 31:37 gave LSU a 3-0 advantage. Attempting to provide a spark off the bench, Kate Zimmerman logged a shot of her own at 33:46, but the Tigers held steady to stay in front by three goals at halftime.
- Out of the locker room, San Francisco applied pressure on LSU as the green and gold recorded ten straight shots without allowing a shot from the Tigers from 48:08 to 58:18. Unfortunately, the Dons could not deliver a goal during this stretch.
- As the two sides continued to battle as the action played on, Natalie Drotzmann got San Francisco on the board at 80:17 as Erika Braun found the sophomore defender to trim LSU's lead to 3-1. However, this momentum proved to be short-lasted as Hermannsdottir came up clutch with her second goal of the game to make it a three-goal game again, 4-1, for the Tigers.
- Despite shots from Chau and Ellie Weissenberg to close the match, LSU did not waiver down the stretch as they secured the 4-1 victory on Thursday night.Â
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
- Offensively, Drotzmann, Chau and Sasadeusz led the team with three shots each. Additionally, both Weissenberg and Yoshida also tallied two shots for the Dons.
- For Sasadeusz, the sophomore has tallied at least one shot in every match so far this season. Notably, she has recorded three games with three or more shots, including Thursday night.
- Attempting a comeback in the second half, San Francisco outshot LSU 11-5 in the final 45 minutes of the contest as the Dons went on to outshot the Tigers overall, 16-13.
