Men's Golf Begins New Year Out East

ROCKVILLE, MD - Beginning the new year with a fellow face, the University of San Francisco men's golf program will partner with Howard University for the third annual USF/Howard Intercollegiate this week.
This year, the tournament shifts to the East Coast as student-athletes will compete at Manor Country Club in Rockville, MD. Starting in 2022, San Francisco partnered with Howard to create a tournament that is focused on equity and inclusion within the sport of golf. Collegiately, this tournament gives unheralded programs the opportunity to compete at prestigious venues such as TPC Harding Park and TPC Potomac at Avenal Farm.
Entering its third year overall, the tournament will feature 12 total Division I teams, including four HBCU's - Alabama St. Florida A&M, Howard and PVAMU.

DONS AT A GLANCE:
- Growing into one of the most consistent programs in the nation, San Francisco has had an individual or the team represent the green and gold at the NCAA Tournament every year since 2017-18 (tournament cancelled in 2019-20). After making it as a team for three straight seasons from 2021-2023, Jakob Melin represented USF at the Stanford Regional this past spring as the former WCC Freshman of the Year tied for 31st overall in the event.
- With the departure of Jack Kennedy to Colorado State in early August, Jalen Griffin, a former student-athlete for the Dons, was promoted from associate head coach to head coach by Director of Athletics Larry Williams on Aug. 9.
- Bringing in a new wave of talent, newcomers Oscar Bredkjaer, Martín León, Morgan McDonough and Henry Styles join the mix in addition to Renato Naula, Aidan Oliver, Svante Palmgren and Brian (Taehoon) Park returning to the roster.
