Dons Catch Fire With Four Goals, Rout Toreros at Home

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - The University of San Francisco women's soccer team (3-9-4, 2-5-2 WCC) earned a dominant 4-1 victory over San Diego (4-5-7, 1-5-3 WCC) on Saturday evening at Negoesco Stadium, led by three first-half goals and the first career brace from Alicia Osegueda.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:

  • San Francisco jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the 13th minute when Osegueda netted her first collegiate goal on a cross from Lindsey Chau. Less than 11 minutes later, Natalie Drotzmann sent the ball near the box, where Osegueda connected for another goal to make it 2-0 in the 24th minute.
  • The Dons extended their lead to 3-0 in the 28th minute as Kate Zimmerman used her left foot to score her first goal of the season, coming off an assist from Isabella Ayau. At halftime, the green and gold maintained their three-goal advantage over San Diego.
  • USF kept the momentum rolling into the second half when Sydni Yoshida joined the goal party in the 49th minute, scoring her first goal of the season. Chau showed her skill to spread the ball once again, collecting her second assist of the match on Yoshida's goal.
  • San Diego spoiled the shutout in the 79th minute with a goal from Josefine Schlichting, but San Francisco's early offensive surge proved too much to overcome as the Dons secured a 4-1 victory on Saturday.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
  • Osegueda scored the first two goals of her collegiate career against San Diego, also marking her first career brace.
  • Chau recorded her first two assists of the season in the win over the Toreros.
  • As a team, USF outshot San Diego 21-7, including 11 shots on goal. San Francisco's 23 shots are the second-most by the Dons this season, and its eleven shots tie for the second-most in a match this year.
  • Tyra Bengtsson-Stenseth was steady in the cage once more, collecting four saves on Saturday. This performance marked the sixth time she has recorded four or more saves and the eleventh time she has recorded three or more saves.
