Box Score SAN JOSE, Calif. – The University of San Francisco baseball team (5-6) dropped the second game of the series, falling at San Jose State (8-2) 5-2 Saturday afternoon at Excite Ballpark.
IN CASE YOU MISSED:
- Going into the second inning scoreless, Kody Watanabe and JT Amaral recorded back-to-back singles before Charles-Etienne Pelletier hit a sacrifice fly, putting San Francisco on the scoreboard for a 1-0 lead.
- San Jose State responded in the bottom of the fourth, tying the game at one following an Alex Fernandes sacrifice fly.
- San Francisco regained the lead in the fifth inning when Patrick Keighran posted an RBI single to left field, scoring Jordan Lewis for a 2-1 advantage. Lewis recorded a one-out single and stole second earlier in the frame.
- The Spartans took advantage in the seventh inning, scoring four unanswered runs to gain a 5-2 edge. Holding the Dons scoreless in the final two frames, the Spartans earned the victory despite late singles in the top of the ninth from Lewis and TJ Rogers.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
- Lewis and Watanabe led the team at the plate, recording two hits apiece and scoring one run against the Spartans.
- Keighran made an impact with one RBI single in two at-bats.
- Joe Soberon pitched 6.1 innings, allowing only three runs on four hits while recording three strikeouts.
UP NEXT:
San Francisco will host San Jose State at Benedetti Diamond at 1:00 p.m. in the final game of the series on Sunday, Mar. 2.
