BERKELEY, Calif. – Aided by a solid offensive performance, the University of San Francisco baseball team (20-25) earned a 10-9 non-conference victory over California (18-26) Tuesday evening at Stu Gordon Stadium.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- Patrick Keighran gave San Francisco the early lead in the opening frame, recording a two-run home run for a 2-0 advantage.
- The opposition responded in the bottom half of the inning, posting three runs, highlighted by a Kalen Applefield two-run blast to give California a narrow 3-2 edge.
- Continuing to provide the Dons with power, Keighran regained the lead with his second long ball of the evening, a three-run shot over the left-center field wall, for a 5-3 lead. Matty Fung and Kenny DeCelle scored on the play as the duo opened the inning with back-to-back singles.
- Four straight base hits for the green and gold extended the lead in the third, with Eddison Esquivel, Tyler Harries, Nick Walsh, and Brendan Burke guiding the team to a 7-3 lead. Jordan Lewis reached on a fielder's choice later in the inning, scoring Walsh, to push the margin to 8-3.
- The Golden Bears stormed back, scoring runs in the bottom of the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings to take a 9-8 advantage.
- Tying the contest at nine in the top of the eighth, TJ Rogers posted a pinch-hit RBI groundout to plate Trevor Harmon.
- Scoring the winning run in the following frame, Esquivel led off the ninth inning with a double to left-center field and advanced to third on a Harries sacrifice bunt in the subsequent at-bat. Esquivel later scored on a Burke sacrifice fly to put the Dons up 10-9.
- Kolby Calia shut the door on the Golden Bears as he produced the last three outs in the bottom of the final frame to earn the narrow victory.
