DONS AT A GLANCE:
- San Francisco enters the final week of the regular season with a 9-15 league record after earning a series win over Portland last weekend. After dropping the series opener 13-3 in a shortened seven-inning affair, the Dons powered back, outscoring the Pilots 15-6 in the final two games to secure the series.
- Patrick Keighran, named Rawlings WCC Player of the Week, led the team at the plate throughout the weekend, batting .500 with four hits in eight at-bats, a home run, and three RBI. In the Dons' 6-0 shutout win on Saturday, May 10, he connected on his team-leading 11th home run. He followed with two hits and an RBI in the series-clinching victory on Sunday, his 14th multi-hit game.
- In 41 games played, Keighran paces the Dons offensively, batting .348, eighth best in the WCC, with 49 hits, 13 doubles, 11 home runs, 47 RBI, and is a perfect 11-for-11 in stolen base attempts.
- Kenny DeCelle also guided the program offensively, going five-for-13 at the plate with one home run, a double, a triple, and four RBI. In Saturday's win, he went three-for-four, matching his season high in hits, and recorded his seventh home run of the season.
- Joe Soberon made one appearance during the week, pitching the final 5.2 innings out of the bullpen on Saturday. He allowed just one hit and three walks while striking out two batters. Allowing just six total baserunners, Soberon sent the Pilots down in order three times during his outing.
- As a team offensively, San Francisco ranks fifth in the WCC in batting average (.266), third in runs scored (89), home runs (60), RBI (299), and slugging percentage (.434), and second in walks (206).
SCOUTING THE WOLVERINES:
- Utah Valley enters its final regular-season series at 28-24 and fourth in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) but has lost seven of its last eight games. The program recently dropped a three-game set at home to Sacramento State, concluding conference play. After winning the weekend's first game over the Hornets, the Wolverines dropped the final two contests, including a 9-2 decision on Sunday in the rubber match.
- Jayden Smith, the lone player batting over .400, leads the program at .414, with 70 hits in 169 at-bats. In 44 games played, Smith has totaled 26 multi-hit performances, including recording a season-high three knocks nine times.
- Landon Frei and Luke Iverson rank first on the team and in the WAC in home runs, posting 15 apiece. The duo has also combined for 108 RBI, 62 walks, and a .293 batting average.
- Jacob Heppner leads all qualified pitchers on the mound with a 5.73 earned-run average, allowing 35 runs in 55.0 innings pitched. As a team, the Wolverines have totaled a 6.67 ERA, seventh best in the WAC.
SERIES HISTORY:
Since the 2006 season, San Francisco holds a 7-3 record, including four of the last five, over Utah Valley. The last time the two programs faced off was in 2022, when the Dons grabbed three of the four games against the Wolverines at Benedetti Diamond. The green and gold outscored the Wolverines 23-17 and held them to three runs or less three times.
