Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Beavers Best Dons at War Memorial

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - The University of San Francisco (USF) men's basketball team did not find its groove as a unit on Thursday night as Oregon State (14-13, 7-7 WCC) defeated San Francisco (14-13, 6-8 WCC), 90-63, at War Memorial at the Sobrato Center.

The Dons had four players score in double figures, led by Ryan Beasley, who had 17 points. Legend Smiley added 14 points, and Vukasin Masic helped out with 11 points.

Off the court, USF celebrated its inaugural Bill Russell Impact Classic, which included the unveiling of "The Bill Russell Way" on campus and the presentation of a posthumous honorary doctorate to his widow, Mrs. Jeannine Russell.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:

  • San Francisco would hit three of its first six shots out of the gates, but struggled for the remainder of the opening period as the Dons trailed heading into the locker room at halftime, 50-28.
  • Moving into the second half, USF narrowed its deficit to 64-43 before going on a 6-0 run, finished off by Smiley's three, to shrink the deficit to 64-49 with 10:51 to go in the contest. Oregon State punched back and didn't allow the green and gold to keep their momentum rolling down the stretch, outscoring the Dons the rest of the way to secure the 90-63 victory.

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:

  • San Francisco collected 15 offensive rebounds as a team, its most since the Dons had 16 on Jan. 10 at Pepperdine.
  • Ryan Beasley led the Dons with 17 points, finishing in double figures for the 18th time this season.
  • Smiley (14 points), Masic (11 points), and Junjie Wang (10 points) rounded out the double-figure scorers for USF.
  • Fuchs finished with a game-high 11 rebounds, marking the seventh time this season he has pulled down ten or more rebounds.
  • As a team, San Francisco led Oregon State in points in the paint (36-26).
