- Rivera was a multi-sport athlete in soccer, basketball and volleyball at Nova Classical Academy
- She collected more than 1,000 digs while being named her team's Defender of the Year for four consecutive seasons
- She also learned all-league honors for five straight years, having joined the varsity squad as an eighth grader
- Rivera and the Knights won five league titles in a row during her tenure with the varsity team
- made three straight appearances in the section finals
- Rivera played for multiple clubs in the Twin Cities, starting out with M1 Volleyball as a 14-year-old before finishing her club stint with Northern Lights Volleyball
- She and the Northern Lights club earned several top finishes at major tournaments, including third-place showings at the January Thaw tournament in Minneapolis, and a qualifier in Kansas City, Mo
- The club also earned a top-15 finish at a national tournament in Indianapolis

- Her sister competed in the 2019 Special Olympics World Games in Abu Dhabi. Maya has Down Syndrome and was competing in the sport of Bocce Ball.
- She and her got to travel to Abu Dhabi to go and support her as well as volunteer with the athletes.
- Hobbies: Painting, ceramics, reading, hiking, canoeing, and paddle boarding
