Daryl Kapis joined the USF coaching staff in the fall of 2016 for one season at the Hilltop.

Kapis came from an impressive 10 year stint with Hawaii Pacific- where he totaled 142 wins as head coach- and a 97-59 (.622) record in his last six seasons with the Sharks. Kapis' highlights include coaching two All-Americans at the middle and libero position, and also led his team to set the defensive record per set for Division II with 20.33 digs per set. He also led the strength and conditioning program for his players and served as the head coach for the beach volleyball club team.

Along with being the head coach at Hawaii Pacific University, Kapis also served the role as Assistant Athletic Director where he oversaw travel, game management for all sports, drug testing, book scholarships and organized the end of the year student-athlete banquet. He also served on the NCAA Division II Regional Ranking Committee.    

Before flying out to Hawaii, Kapis spent a year each being the volunteer assistant coach at UCLA in 2001 and San Jose State in 2000. Both of those teams went to the NCAA tournament, with UCLA getting to the Elite 8 while working under hall of fame coach- Andy Banachowski.

Kapis also served three years as the head coach at San Jose City College where he totaled a 62-28 record. In 2005 his team totaled a 25-6 record and took San Jose City to its first and only state championship appearance by finishing 5th in the state and tied for a Coast Conference league title.   

Since 1999, Kapis has worked very closely with the USA Volleyball in the High Performance program. Kapis has held a number of roles within USA Volleyball by being a training coach for the Youth National Team, Assistant Coach for the Youth and Junior A2 programs and Head Coach of the A3 Youth and Select age group.  Locally, Kapis was also involved as being the lead coach for the Northern California Regional Program from 2004-2006.

Kapis was a vital part in the recruiting process as he carries a breadth of experience in his days as a coach for premier volleyball clubs and high school programs in the Bay Area. Kapis served as the Assistant Varsity coach at Archbishop Mitty High School in San Jose, Calif. for three seasons from 1997-99 and continued to be their Head Strength and Conditioning coach until 2005.

He also served seven years at a variety of premier volleyball clubs like Vision, City Beach and the Golden Bear. Kapis is the co-founder and a lead administrator for five years at Yahoo! Volleyball Club.  He led all of his club teams to the Open Division of Junior Nationals with his top team in 2001 finishing 5th at Junior Nationals in the 17-open division. 

A graduate of San Francisco State with a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education in 1996, Kapis went on to obtain his Master’s in Health, Education and Recreation from Saint Mary’s College in 2002. Kapis is married to his wife Elisabeth, and has three boys William, Brendon, and Hunter.
