USF Career year: 1941

Arthur C. Zief graduated from USF in 1941, and served in the United States Navy during World War II.  After the war he attended USF Law School. He was an ardent Dons basketball fan and rarely missed a home game at the War Memorial Gymnasium. He was a generous donor to the USF Law School, and established the Zief Scholarship Endowment to assist second and third-year law students. In addition, he helped support the construction of the new law library.

Zief’s former law partner, Ray Glickness, said that he’s “never met anybody with the enthusiasm and passion for life, that that man had. Art had a tremendous sense of fairness and justice (USF Athletics).”  Zief’s son was developmentally disabled, and was a source of inspiration. Zief established the Arthur Zief, Jr. Foundation in 1988, which purchased nine homes in San Mateo County to house nearly 50 developmentally disabled residents.
