
San Francisco Controls Attack in Draw Against Santa Clara

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The University of San Francisco men's soccer team (4-4-3, 0-0-2 WCC) earned its second consecutive conference draw Wednesday evening, battling Santa Clara to a 1-1 result at Stevens Stadium.

San Francisco controlled the attacking tempo throughout the match, finishing with a commanding 29-6 advantage in total shots, including a 10-2 edge in shots on goal. The Dons also generated eight corner kicks compared to just one for the Broncos.

Santa Clara was reduced to 10 players early after Moises Almontes was shown a straight red card in the seventh minute. San Francisco took advantage of the extra player shortly thereafter, earning a penalty kick that David Raphael converted in the 18th minute to give the Dons a 1-0 lead. The goal marked Raphael's sixth of the season.

Despite San Francisco maintaining the majority of the attacking pressure, Santa Clara equalized in the 30th minute when Bradley Roberson scored off assists from Will Wiersdorf and Yu Yokokawa. The Dons entered halftime tied at one after outshooting the Broncos 12-2 through the opening 45 minutes.

San Francisco continued to press forward in the second half, recording 17 additional shots while holding Santa Clara to four. The Dons earned another penalty opportunity in the 69th minute, but Broncos goalkeeper Jackson Ozburn denied Raphael from the spot to preserve the tie.

The Dons produced several more quality chances over the closing stages, including multiple shots on target from Brayden Beason, Alex Solomis and Kaleb Afsari, but were unable to find the deciding goal before the final whistle.
