Edmund John Morrissey was born on August 16, 1897 in San Francisco and attended the then Saint Ignatius College. He was active in student government, a member of the Academic Council, and played both football and baseball for the then Grey Fog, batting .318 in 1916. He graduated in 1917 with a Bachelor’s Liberal Arts and then attended the University of California Medical School. He practiced as a Neurologist on staff at Saint Mary’s Hospital, Saint Francis Hospital, and at Seton Hospital. He later became Chief of Staff at Saint Mary’s and a Clinical Professor of Surgery at Stanford Medical School. He was President of the San Francisco Medical Society, President of the Academy of Neurological Society, and the Western Neurological Society. He was a member of the Pacific Union Club, the Bohemian Club, and the San Francisco Gold Club.

He was inducted to the USF Hall of Fame in 1974.
