Harry Edward Hughes was born in England in 1913 and arrived in the United States at the age of 15. He attended Saint Ignatius College Preparatory and was on their track and the swim teams. He attended USF in the class of 1935, and played soccer for the Dons. He graduated with a Bachelor's in Politics and Economics. He was inducted into the San Francisco Hall of Fame in 1978.
