William Edward Hinch was born on June 27, 1910, in Virginia City, NV where he attended his local Virginia City High School. He earned All-State Honors played basketball for them. After a short stint as a student at the University of Nevada, where he was a member of Sigma Nu, he transferred to USF. He played football and soccer for the Dons, and earned All-State Honors in 1934 in football. He graduated from USF in 1935 with a Bachelor's Degree in Biology. 

He lived most of his adult life in Napa, and worked for Bayson Rock and Sand Company. He was inducted into the USF Hall of Fame in 1985.
